IAVE Conferences and Workshops IAVE's biennial world conference is the only such regular international convening of volunteer leaders. The conferences move throughout the world, planned and managed by local host committees. Although the participants come from all continents, the primary impact of the conference typically is within the host region. The conference raises awareness of the importance of volunteering, draw leaders from the public and private sectors into the volunteer community and offers a unique opportunity for volunteer leaders from the region to build their skills and learn from colleagues worldwide. Over 100 countries have been represented at IAVE's 19 biennial world conferences; over 400 scholarships have been provided for participants in the last seven conferences alone.
In alternate years, IAVE and its members convene in regional conferences, which offer the opportunity to involve people who are unable to attend the world conference. Regional conferences typically focus on exchange of best practices and skill development training.

1970: 1st IAVE World Volunteer Conference The LIVE (Learn Through International Volunteer Effort) Conference was held in Los Angeles in October 1970 with 85 delegates representing 15 countries attending. Los Angeles families hosted all of the delegates. By the end of their week together there was a commitment to form an International Board elected from all world regions. Volunteers supported by a network of National Representatives, who are themselves volunteers, do the work of the organization. (Conference program) |
