21st IAVE World Volunteer Conference, Singapore 2011

IAVE IRC

The 21st IAVE World Volunteer Conference will take place in Singapore on January 24 - 27, 2011. Hosted by Singapore’s National Volunteer & Philanthropy Center, the event will run in conjunction with the tenth anniversary of the UN International Year of Volunteers (IYV +10) and IAVE’s 40th anniversary. In the tradition of recent IAVE conferences, an affiliated Youth Volunteer Conference will be held on January 21 - 23.

In the spirit of highlighting the impact of volunteering on communities, the conference theme is ‘Volunteering to Change the World’. As this IYV +10 conference is to review the impact of volunteers since IYV and to assess what’s needed to move forward, it is time for the world volunteering community to seriously look into itself to see what we have achieved, where we have fallen short, and how we can organize ourselves better to impact societies and the world we live in more strategically and in tangible, felt ways. Through this conference, it is hoped that volunteer capital is truly recognized by governments, by businesses and by the not-for-profit sector itself for what it has to offer as an equal partner in building communities in a sustained manner.

The event will have a mixture of conference sessions, forums, and workshops. On the agenda will be issues addressed by the UN Millennium Development Goals of poverty eradication, literacy, health, environmental sustainability, and other issues including, engaging the baby boomer generation, youth, religious bodies, leadership development, cross-cultural sensitivities, research into volunteer capital, risk management, episodic volunteering, large-scale events, humanitarian relief, and corporate volunteering.

Our Organisation is a Network of Youth Organisations in Zambia and we have a lot of challenges for young people to particpart in national development because of alot issues including not have an opportunity and to be appreciated as volunteer which are just starting to do. I am very happy and i look forward to part of the 1,000 people that have involved in such a special programme befor we knew it.

21st IAVE World Volunteer Conference, Singapore Jan 2011

Hi Sufi, thanks for enquiring. Hope to welcome a good sized contingent from Brunei because we at NVPC know of your strong commitment to volunteer development in your country.

More results will be announced as we go along, esp in e-IAVE, and on the conference website when it is launched in Jan 2010, but in the meantime, do feel free to email kenny@nvpc.org.sg or me if you have specific queries.

We are targeting well over 1000 delegates worldwide for this conference at Resorts World on Sentosa Island and the accompanying youth conference at the city campus of our Singapore Management University. The theme is Volunteering to Change the World, looking into how volunteer power can be cleverly harnessed to impact the world we live in.

It will be an exciting and fulfilling conference as we finalise our line up of speakers that can speak authoritatively to the theme.

Hope to see you and your group in Singapore in Jan 2011.

Warm regards
