IAVE 21st World Volunteer Conference Workshop 324: Board Leadership and Engagement: Trends and Leading Practices in Nonprofit Governance
Boards and board members need to keep up with the continually changing world. An NGO's governing body is critical to its success in having exceptional direction, resources, and oversight. Particularly true for all-volunteer organizations, the board is where authority lies to ensure that the mission is advanced effectively. Without a board, you cannot have an NGO; so board members are the most important volunteers. Good governance makes all other volunteering for the NGO possible.
Drawing on trends and developments in non-profit governance parctices, this workshop moves beyond the basics of board roles and responsibilities. It covers effective practices in non-profit governance, demonstrating how boards can incorporate current leading practices. This session will include information on trends in board development, structure, and size and developing practices of a culture of inquiry, effective meetings and committees, executive sessions, consent agendas, dashboards, technology, and constructive partnership between the board and chief executive.
