Businesses Seeking for Volunteer Ways of Action Making from 17th IAVE World Conference
Presentations made at Workshop 1 at the 17th IAVE Conference on "Businesses Seeking for Volunteer Ways of Action Making a Difference in Tel Aviv" by Uri Jaffe Volunteer Bureau, Tel -Aviv Yaffo Municipality, Israel
Why does Israelis National Airlines provide free educational tours to children at risk? What reason would high tech companies have to encourage their employees to volunteer in Youth Villagesand Residential Instatutions?
Why has A Pharmaceutical company decided to supply non-prescriptal medicine for free to disadvantaged residents in
Jaffa?
Why is a respectable Low firm involved in the rehabilitation of ex-prisoners and helping the homeless?
These are a few examples of members of the business sector in Tel Aviv that are actively engaged in promoting voluntarism in the business realm and setting an example of philanthropy and a model of community involvement. The greatest resource of any business consists of the skills, knowledge and energies of its employees. Many companies have come to conclusion that direct volunteering is often more significant to the firm and to the community, then giving charity to noble causes.
The involvement of private companies in community projects is based on long term volunteering and requires the ongoing investment of their resources. Acting as a facilitator between the private & the public sector the Tel Aviv Volunteer Bureau works with companies, volunteer organizations and has placed thousands of volunteers in many unique volunteer tasks in the city of Tel Aviv.
In my presentation I will introduce a wide range of example’s how and why firms chose to volunteer, present a video on Tel- Aviv -Jaffa, and involve the audience by asking them to find and point out businesswho they think can volunteer. I will conclude with another video - showing live example’s of firms that are volunteering in the community in Israel.
