August deadline for call for bids to host 2014 World Volunteer Conference

IAVE IRC

The International Association for Volunteer Effort is calling for bids from interested organisations to host the 2014 World Volunteer Conference. The deadline for the call for bids is August 31, 2011.

IAVE World Volunteer Conferences are unique events in the world of volunteering. They are occasions when all those involved in the sector can meet to celebrate and have a platform to share their knowledge and understanding of this great world movement. The conferences attract distinguished international speakers, expert trainers and presenters and leaders from the worlds of volunteering, NGOs, research, government and the corporate sector. IAVE's World Volunteer Conferences provide opportunities for policy makers, professionals , advocates and grassroots volunteers to interact.

The 2014 event will be the 23rd World Volunteer Conference in IAVE’s history. A list of conferences in the past decade is provided below, highlighting dates, locations and themes:

  • 2012 London "Leading Tomorrow's Global Volunteer Community Together"
  • 2011* Singapore "Volunteering to Change the World"
  • 2008 Panama City, Panama "Volunteering, Solidarity and Equity"
  • 2006 New Delhi, India "Volunteering for Peace in Multicultural Societies"
  • 2004 Barcelona, Spain
  • 2002 Seoul, Korea "Volunteering, Reaching out for Reconciliation and Peace"
  • 2001* Amsterdam, The Netherlands "Volunteers: Capital of the Millennium – Integrating the Young and the New"

(*Note – Conferences held in 2001 and 2011 were moved from the ‘even’ years to coincide with the launch the International Year of Volunteers (2001) and the 10th Anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (2011) respectively.)

CONFERENCE THEME: Each IAVE conference is different, each special in its own way. Yet each builds on what has gone before and forms part of a unique history. The 23rd conference will be no exception. The host organisation, in consultation with, and the approval of, IAVE will decide on a theme for the conference. The theme will be such that it will elicit discussions on a wide range of core issues of policy, research and practice and within general and thematic contexts.

CONFERENCE FORMAT: At the conference it is expected that there will be plenary sessions, forums, workshops and an exhibition space. Critically, the conference will be preceded by a very dynamic Youth Conference.

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: Please see this document from the last IAVE World Volunteer Conference as a reference for the number of participants to expect - Number of Attendees by Country for IAVE World Conference 2011_0.doc

SUBMITTING A BID:  The deadline for submissions is August 31, 2011. Please refer to the below documents for further information.
