Purpose of the Workshop:
1) To share the idea and information on democracy, volunteering and media which have been discussed in separated section
2) To induce ordinary citizens’ concern and participation in the two international congress on volunteering and
democracy through thematic understanding
3) To make the main stream media responsible for steering up volunteering to strengthen democracy

Abstract and Outline:
This mini plenary session aims at identifying the relationship among the three different social sectors in the modern democratic societies. As well known, democracy is nurtured by citizens’ volunteer activities, and the role of media is also vital in democracy. Media can be a great contributor in the promotion of volunteering as well. This plenary session is also arranged to share the ideas and information to be discussed in separate conferences: the two large international conferences on volunteering and democracy that are to be held at different places during the same period.

1) Introduce the JoongAng Ilbo Institute for Civil Society
2) Present the keynote
3) Present the topic of the session
4) Have panel presentation and discussion about democracy, volunteering and media
5) Have the floor discussion and summarize

Activities:
Through presentation by speakers and panelists who are involved in democracy community, volunteerism, and media, participants will learn and share the ideas and information on democracy, volunteering, and media. In addition they will discuss the ways to make the media encourage volunteering to strengthen democracy.
