IAVE 21st World Volunteer Conference Workshop 415: Senior Volunteering: A Career in Retirement
Despite their wealth of experience and an increased willingness to give back to their communities, senior citizens are an often-overlooked and underutilised asset for the volunteering community. Stereotypes of senior citizens are often far removed from reality, with many seniors having a desire to sow greater concord within their communities and actively put their time to use helping others. This workshop will outline some of the benefits which volunteering brings to both senio citizens and non-profit organizations, presenting participants with ways in which to tap into senior as both new and experienced volunteers. The workshop will also look at how best to recognize seniors in the volunteer force by directing their particular skills and motivations into the most appropriate avenues possible.
