IAVE 21st World Volunteer Conference Workshop 316: Transforming an Icon
Through instilling the mindset of community service and considering the needs of others, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts have over the last 100 years inculcated the spirit of volunteerism in young girls. They are encouraged to make a difference in others' lives and influence change through their mission - to enable girls and young women to develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world.
To thrive today's world - and to have the effect on it they seek to have - NPOs must be prepared to deal with swift, deep, and unpredictable changes. This is a significant challenge for any organization, particularly one with a long history and a reverence for its own past.
The ongoing transformation process of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is a testament of how this venerable, tradition-bound organization has retained its values and the allegiance of its members as it reshapes itself to meet the needs of today's girls.
