IAVE 21st World Volunteer Conference Workshop 325: Leadership to Alleviate Poverty

IAVE IRC

Dr. Brassard will share some of the emerging challenges in poverty alleviation strategies from the perspective of governments, non-profit organizations and the international community. Her insights are based notably on recent research on poverty alleviation strategies and aid effectiveness in countries such as Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia and Bhutan. Leadership to alleviation poverty involves prioritisation on principles such as mutual accountability and transparent participatory process in a highly complex environment. With the presence of multiple players including government, non-profit and private sector funded anti-poverty programmes, coordination and alignment are increasingly difficult to achieve. This session will suggest ways to surmount these challenges and discuss some of the common pitfalls to avoid, especially for volunteer organizations working in Asia. The first 45 minutes of the session will be in the form of a seminar and the second half wil specifically deal with questions and comments from the audience.
