IAVE 21st World Volunteer Conference Workshop 411: Changing the World Online
As online media become an increasingly pervasive channel for mass information and message distribution, volunteer organizations have an unprecedented number of new avenues via which to effect change on a global scale. Organizations can not only use online media to bolster existing efforts and programmes, but alos deploy them as primary mechanisms unto themselves. This workshop will address how organizations can benefit from the use of online media as well as covering the various challenges and potential hazards associated with its use. Participants will examine the extended outreach available through the use of the Internet as well as its limitations, evaluating the success of online approaches to developmental work, cross-cultural engagement and volunteer recruitment.
