IAVE 21st World Volunteer Conference Workshop 422: The Power of Masses: Events Volunteering

IAVE IRC

This session will analyse the relationship between volunteerism and social, human and political capital at organizational dimensions in mass events volunteerism.

Jakub Kalinowski will bring to the table the important key learning that in developing sports volunteering, sports events should be viewed as "tools" and not "goals." This change in perspective will lead to better planning and managing of recruitment, training and other management processes of volunteering for sporting event that in the long run could result in their long term involvement. Cynthia Zhuang will use this session to investigate the selection practices of university students as the main volunteer force at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games through some qualitative multiple-case study with three universities in Beijing. Amy Tan will share about the Youth Olympics on how volunteers were living the Singapore Spirit and leaving a legacy by sustaining volunteerism.
