Invitation to the 12th IAVE Asia Pacific Regional Volunteer Conference from the City Council Speaker
| As Speaker, and on behalf of Kaohsiung City Council, it is my pleasure to welcome delegates from the Asia Pacific region to visit Kaohsiung in 2009 for the 12th IAVE Asia Pacific Regional Volunteer Conference on November 26-29. | ![]() |
With its harbor, mountain, ocean, river, fine citizens and dynamic character Kaohsiung is an international city, the sixth largest port in the world and the financial center of Southern Taiwan. Kaohsiung, the second largest city in Taiwan, is sheltered by a mountain on one side and faces the Taiwan Strait on the other. The city’s Love River, similar to the Seine in Paris and the Thames in London, characterizes Kaohsiung’s abundant natural beauty, rich 300-year old history of arts and culture, and diverse recreational amenities.
To promote Kaohsiung’s visibility on the global stage, in recent years the government, city council, and community have been working in close cooperation to advance urban development, facility construction, civil moral cultivation and international participation, with the aim of making Kaohsiung one of the world’s best harbor cities.
Following the World Games, which Kaohsiung will host in July 2009, we are pleased to have the great opportunity to welcome you to visit our dynamic and hospitable city on November 26-29, 2009 to experience its rich history, art and culture.
Sincerely,
Chi-Wang Chuang
Speaker of Kaohsiung City Council
