FORUM: VOLUNTEER OLD PERSONS
Title: Voluntary work for the development and the active and worthy aging. Alliances for the promotion of public policies. Experience in Peru.
He(She) presents concepts and aspects that help to overcome stereotypes on the oldness and the aging, showing it as one more stage of the life, with possibilities of personal and social accomplishment, and to the voluntary work in this stage of the life, as a way of exercising active citizenship and of taking part in the development, the overcoming of the poverty and the strengthening of the democracy.
Associations of major adults join networks(nets) and achieve recognition and dialogue with the State and other social actors, generating share capital and affecting in the establishment of public policies that allow them a better quality of life: Limits of Politics(Policy) for the Adult Major Persons the year 2000, National Plan for the Old Persons 2002-2006, 2006 - 2010, Department of the Woman and Social Development - MIMDES, as governing entity, and the Law of the Old Persons 2006.
Two approaches opposite to the voluntary work: a) response to feeling solidarity, to share the need of other one, contributing in the search of attention and solution to the above mentioned situation, without penetrating mainly into the reasons b) as exercise of citizenship, taking part in the search of the common good, which joins the solidary (joint) and humanitarian feeling, to the commitment for the identification of the reasons of the above mentioned situation and seeks to strike on them.
The UNO indicates that the empoderamiento of the poorest and excluded, will allow them to make hear his(her, your) voices and that they are the citizens' organizations those that are going to favor the same one, being constituted in an important way to face the poverty and to strengthen the democracy.
The achievement of the ODM implies commitments of State, but also it(he,she) holds us to take part as citizens and volunteers of all the ages in order that it(he,she) is like that.
