The culture of disaster relief volunteers
- There were 1.37million people who involved into volunteer activities at the time of the Kobe earthquake in 1995.
- After that, many volunteers have started rushing into disaster area in Japan.
- Their activities are removing rubbles or sand, preparing meals, supporting evacuation shelters, caring for elderly people. Moreover they commit to a long term rehabilitation process.
- It is not only activities when a disaster occurred, recently the activities are required to give volunteers lessons back to the disaster area, and need to tackle for activities of disaster mitigation.
