• 30,000 children die every day from poverty and neglect
• 2 billion people live without adequate food and basic needs
• More than 3 million people will die of HIV/AIDS this year
• This is a tsunami every week, 100 jumbos crashing everyday

  Why MDGs matter to the volunteers movement?

• Broad framework committed by 189 world leaders, on behalf of their people
• Premised on human values of caring and the moral call for freedom and justice
• Relies on active participation, social activism and citizens voice and engagement
• UN Secretary General’s and the UN system’s number one priority - links poverty, peace, climate change and human rights
