SEE YOU IN COLOMBIA… FOR IAVE’S 2ND WORLD SUMMIT FOR YOUTH VOLUNTEERING
75 Days! That’s about how long there is before IAVE and Partners of the Americas convenes the World Summit for Youth Volunteering in Barranquilla, Colombia. It’s for young people – and also for a little older folks working on issues related to youth volunteering. Check out just below how you can be part of it. Then, find out what went on at IAVE’s African regional meeting and the U.S. National Conference on Volunteering and Service – and, lots, lots more!
Celebrate the achievements of youth volunteers from around the globe at the 2nd World Summit for Youth Volunteering with IAVE, Partners of the Americas (Partners) and Universidad del Norte (UNINORTE)! This once-a-decade event meets the warmth and hospitality of the Caribbean Coast in Barranquilla, Colombia from November 3rd- 5th, 2011! The Summit will be held on the secure campus of UNINORTE, one of the preeminent universities in Colombia, and one with a well-recognized focus on training young volunteers. Attendees will be inspired by youth leaders from all over the world, will participate in interactive breakout sessions and panels, and will develop actionable commitments to volunteer service that they will implement in their home communities. These commitments will be nurtured through the RED2021 (2021 Network), an online platform where event attendees will be able to support each other post-event, and for the next ten years.
You don’t have to wait to get involved with the World Summit. Three contests are now open: the Film Festival, 100 Ideas for Youth Volunteerism, and Heroes of the Millennium.
- Ten Film Festival finalists will have their films showcased at the Summit, with the top three finalists receiving grants to attend the Summit and other prizes.
- 100 Ideas will select top effective practices about volunteering for inclusion in a publication that will be provided to Summit attendees following the event.
- The Summit will also name the Heroes of the Millennium- volunteers who work on highly imaginative and impactful volunteer projects or programs. Heroes finalists will also receive grants to attend the Summit and numerous other prizes.
Guidelines and application materials for the contests can be found at http://www.partners.net/partners/Summit_Contests.asp?SnID=261295223. The deadline is August 31st, 2011.
