Volunteering in the European Athletic Championships

Barcelona hosted the 20th European Athletic Championships from July 26th to August 1st 2010 and at least 1200 volunteers were busy at the competition in Barcelona: multi-lingual volunteers assisting communication with and between athletes, journalism students assisting the press and others helping with the transport of athletes to and from venues.
Among the many volunteer and promotion activities of nations in the championship, the "Marathon of taste and beauty of Italy" gave Barcelona a week of exciting and positive results.
Around 15 young Italian volunteers living in Barcelona, including those at the IAVE Youth Office in Catalonia (IYOC), contributed to the great success achieved by the various activities that took place in the Boqueria market and shopping center Maremegnum. Food and wine industries, tourism operators and business representing Italy contributed to a series of events (evenings, tastings and seminars) organized by Casa Italy Athletics in collaboration with the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona ( CCIB).
The village house Italy Athletics was visited by an average of 800 people a day. The famous Boqueria market had two events per day for the promotion of Italian culture and an average of about 300 people attended each. In one week, Casa Italia hosted around 10 thousand people.
Mario Ialenti, project manager of Casa Italy Athletics, said "In Barcelona we reached our goal of combining the value of health and sport with the territory, which was expressed by the quality of our food, but a this success was only possible thanks to teamwork".
