Invitation to the 12th IAVE Asia Pacific Regional Volunteer Conference from the Mayor of Kaohsiung

As Mayor, and on behalf of the City Government and citizens of Kaohsiung, it is an honor to welcome delegates to attend the 12th IAVE Asia-Pacific Regional Volunteer Conference 2009 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

It is our belief that urban development depends on the dynamic involvement and participation of citizens in city priorities. The invaluable contributions of volunteers and volunteer organizations, who put services above self, have successfully helped position Kaohsiung as an attractive and prosperous waterfront city.

Thanks to cooperation between the community, private sector and government, Taiwan’s second largest city has transformed successfully from an industrial hub into an international metropolis, through waterfront redevelopment, ecological conservation, cultural revitalization and the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit System. Additionally, more and more investors and tourists are attracted by our comfortable tropical climate and convenient geographical location.

As Mayor of the friendly city, I sincere invite you to participant in the 12th IAVE Asia Pacific Regional Volunteer Conference in Kaohsiung on 26-29 November 2009 and wish the conference great success.

Sincerely,

Chen Chu
Mayor
