What can voluntary organizations in Western Europe learn from their counterparts in Asia? What examples are there of interesting voluntary projects in Jordan, Zambia or Siberia? And which countries have been successful in getting young people involved in voluntary work? |
Does worldwide voluntary work exist? Or is voluntary work so culturally determined and interpreted that the differences between countries are greater than the similarities?
The United Nations has declared 2001 to be the Year of the Volunteer. This is an important acknowledgment of the significance of voluntary work and it marks the start of a variety of activities all over the world. It’s also an appropriate occasion to take a look at voluntary work in different parts of the world from the perspective of the questions posed above."
