The International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) seeks a globally-minded, dynamic Executive Director who shares our belief in the power of volunteers to make a significant contribution to resolving the world’s most pressing problems.
IAVE exists to promote, support and celebrate volunteering throughout the world. With members in 70+ countries, we work to achieve a global culture of volunteering. Led by a 10-person international Board of Directors, IAVE is supported by a small professional staff working from various locations in the US and globally. The Executive Director position is based in our Washington, DC office. There is some flexibility with geographic location, although we have a preference for a US-based candidate. The Executive Director leads the staff and works closely with the Board to execute the current strategic plan. With an eye toward the future, the Executive Director will develop IAVE’s next strategic plan, envisioning how the organization can serve its individual, organizational, and corporate members, building the network and re-imagining volunteerism and its role in society. The Executive Director will heavily focus on funding to build a sustainable revenue model. In addition to overseeing IAVE’s programmatic work, the Executive Director also leads the staff and manages all aspects of internal

The Executive Director is instrumental in building networks around the globe and advancing IAVE’s global agenda to promote, strengthen and celebrate volunteering worldwide. Primary responsibilities include ensuring that IAVE achieves its strategic goals; spearheading IAVE’s fund development strategy; leading a global organization with enthusiasm for building teams and volunteer relationships through virtual platforms and technology; ensuring IAVE’s convenings, research, advocacy and network development activities are of the highest quality and reflect IAVE’s values; and others which can be seen at the link above.
Ideal candidates for this position will bring a passion for IAVE’s mission and a demonstrated commitment to volunteering and an understanding of its role in the world. Candidates will also possess at least 7 years’ experience in an organization with a strong volunteer component; excellent verbal and written communications; familiarity with new technologies and experience leading a virtual team; fluency in English required, with fluency in a language other than English a plus; and eligibility to work in the United States and able to travel internationally on a regular basis, among other requirements
