Biography

Jane Hedger is Chief Executive Officer of Volunteering Queensland, the state’s peak body dedicated to advancing volunteering for the social, cultural, environmental, and economic wellbeing of Queensland. With more than 30 years of leadership experience across government and the nonprofit sector – and over 40 years as a volunteer – Jane brings deep expertise in community engagement, organizational change, and sector-wide advocacy.

Appointed CEO in 2024 after serving eight years as Company Secretary and Board Director, Jane leads efforts to support more than 2.8 million volunteers across Queensland. Under her leadership, the organization delivers nationally recognized training programs and an award-winning corporate volunteering model now being adopted internationally. She works closely with government, business, and community leaders across Australia and New Zealand to strengthen the infrastructure and recognition of volunteering.

Jane has an extensive governance background, having served as Board Chair, Director, and advisory member for numerous organizations, including those focused on domestic violence prevention, inclusion, and community wellbeing. She currently chairs CHALLENGE DV and serves in multiple advisory roles, contributing to public policy and sector development.

A strong advocate for innovation, inclusion, and sustainable impact, Jane has played a key role in advancing national conversations on volunteering, including supporting a major parliamentary inquiry and contributing to long-term planning for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. Her work emphasizes reducing barriers to participation, strengthening volunteer leadership, and ensuring diverse communities are represented and empowered.

Jane brings a collaborative, forward-looking perspective to board service, grounded in a commitment to global partnership, community resilience, and the transformative power of volunteering.
